In 1976 the late Ms. Francis Jones, teacher and principal of
Mary Fields School, organized
Daufuskie Day. This is what inspired us to keep Daufuskie a part of our history! The purpose then and now remains a mechanism so the native gullah culture will not be forgotten, but a legacy preserved and celebrated. The opportunity has been given to share our unique culture with visitors from around the world, as well as with relatives and friends of native gullah islanders. For more information visit
The Daufuskie Island Foundation online.
